Expertise Mapping
Webmapping of FGSE expertise
To build a first mapping, enter a search term representing a large field of expertise...
The expertise mapping is a simple and efficient tool that allows the search, exploration and discovery of the main scientific competences present in FGSE, whatever the status of the researchers. It allows to visualize in a dynamic way the links between the researchers of the Faculty and their research fields or specialties as well as the production of each one.
To discover the tool
Start entering a search term, select the appropriate one from the drop-down menu and click on 'Search':
To go further and interact with the mapping
By clicking on a node, additional information is displayed in the 'Information' tab to the right of the window. People or words can be removed from the graph individually to make it easier to read or better identify/view certain themes. Selecting a term displays all the associated themes and people. By clicking on the name of the persons, one accesses their complete individual record in Unisciences which can specify other data (teaching, publications, research projects, link to personal site, etc.)
Tips for visualisation
To facilitate visualization, the search terms are classified according to the number of results returned. The groups are also given different shades of colour depending on the number of search terms connected. The darker the shade, the more search terms a group is connected to.
Advanced features
Change the limit of results
The maximum number of searchers found for a given term is determined by the 'limit' value which is set to 10 by default. Raising this limit will increase the possible number of connections between different experts. Keep in mind that a too high limit will produce a very dense mapping, therefore not very readable.
